Join us as we explore some of the most vast landscapes on earth, along with a foray of remote and rarely photographed glacial valleys hidden deep in Alaska's wilderness. We will spend time in the peak of Fall foliage season, and venturing to some of the most remote backcountry areas. Whether from the skies via helicopter and drone or down below in kayaks, the vast expanse of endless mountain ranges and massive river deltas will leave you in awe, and inspire our daily creativity as we capture the beauty before us.

Our exact itinerary will be kept very flexible to account for changing weather conditions, varying fall foilage locations and group interest. This is simply an example of what you can expect.

Note: This workshop will begin in Anchorage, AK and end in Cordova, AK.

Arrive in Anchorage by September 8th where we'll meet at our hotel at 5pm. We will have a meet and greet, a brief safety orientation, and discuss the itinerary for the next couple of days, review shooting techniques, and make sure everyone’s drone is up to date before our first group dinner.

We’ll start this trip with a bang, departing early to capture sunrise at a lake that reflects massive mountains. After breakfast, we begin a long journey into Alaska’s backroads, photographing stunning glacial rivers before checking into a quaint lodge for the next two nights, deep within the Alaska Range.

The next two days will be spent exploring some of the most photogenic and remote glacial valleys on earth. After a day of endless compositions, we'll return to the lodge and enjoy a feast as we relax and reminisce on our adventures.

We rise early and head out on an morning hike to shoot an alpine lake surrounded by beautiful peaks. We’ll spend the day photographing small ponds and taking abstract aerial photographs. We'll have the area all to ourselves. No crowds, no tourists shoulder to shoulder. When we’ve filled our memory cards full of radiant glacier fed rivers, we’ll head back to base, eat, and rest up for our next adventure.

Afterwards, we begin the long drive to a massive braided river valley. For sunset, we take a helicopter ride to shoot glaciers and fall colors from a remote mountainside in the Chugach mountain range.

At sunrise, we capture the soft morning light as it illuminates a stunning mountain vista and aerial footage of the meandering glacial rivers. The time is given to enjoy the splendor, watch the light change, and work on unique compositions.

We’ll head to the airport and fly to Cordova, where we’ll spend the remainder of the workshop exploring a seldom visited coastal town, isolated from the rest of Alaska. Sunset finds us along the coast, photographing the harbor and seascapes.

Our first morning in the secluded coastal town of Cordova. We’ll explore massive deltas and swirling rivers that excite the mind. Drone photography in this area is unmatched. We’ll have a mid day post processing session and discuss techniques for composition.

For sunset, we’ll hike up a short but steep mountain side to a secluded lake with reflecting peaks. The area has stunning twisted trees and vegetation full with fall foliage.

Our adventure begins with an fully outfitted kayaking experience to a nearby glacier and lake. We’ll paddle out to an island, where we can drone close to the glacier and have lunch. It's a unique experience you’ll remember for years to come.

Returning to our lodge late afternoon, we’ll rest and get ready for the evening. We’ll venture through a thick, moss covered forest with whimsical foot bridges to a high alpine lake with views of the rugged peaks beyond.

Logistics

Plan to arrive in Anchorage, Alaska prior to 3PM on September 8th, 2024.

This workshop will begin in Anchorage, AK and end in Cordova, AK. It is up to you to purchase the flight to Cordova from Anchorage and the return flight home. We suggest getting a one-way ticket from home to Anchorage, a one-way ticket from Anchorage to Cordova, and then a one-way ticket from Cordova back home.

Having a few rainy days is common this time of year, bring appropriate gear to keep yourself and your camera dry. While this workshop is scheduled to photograph peak fall colors, there is of course some seasonal variation and we cannot make guarantees.

Please have a basic understanding of how to use your drone prior to starting the workshop.

All participants should be in good physical condition, free of mobility challenges, balance issues and extreme fear of heights (helicopter ride). Please plan for motion sickness control if you have a need.

You will need to be comfortable hiking 2-4 miles per day, over uneven terrain.

Be prepared for any type of weather. Alaska’s weather is very unpredictable. Cold mornings and wet sunrises are expected, and we could experience strong winds, rain, thunderstorms, and much colder temperatures this time of year.
